Rob and Kate Houle met as theater majors, each receiving a BFA in performance. They both spent much of their time on stage, in front of the camera and working on other people’s productions. They made the move to Los Angeles in 2014. After spending several years working in the film and television industry in LA on location and on studio lots with major production companies like Warner Brothers, Paramount, Fox, ABC, Netflix, and Hulu as background actors and production assistants, Rob and Kate moved to the Northwoods of Wisconsin. They were essentially hired to be the storytellers at Conserve School, a semester boarding school in the middle of the woods that had a focus on environmental education and the outdoors. Rob worked as the Media and Technology Specialist, and Kate, as the Communications Specialist. Their respective positions often collaborated both on projects and professional development including two summers participating in SPARK courses with Wisconsin Public Television under the guidance of educators from PBS.
As lovers of documentaries and independent film, they discovered their mutual passion for nonfiction storytelling, specifically getting behind the camera to craft and tell those stories. Kate and Rob's skill sets, artistic proclivities, and aptitudes seamlessly complement one another. Kate is an enthusiastic story crafter, writer, and director, and Rob has an almost obsessive interest in the technical side of creating, from finding the right light, to setting up a shot with the right lens, to editing the final product. As a team, Rob and Kate desire to not just inform but to seek out and capture the heart and fiery spark of special stories.
